This building at 503 Washington Street housed the Alexandria Public Library until its move one block east to the new library in 1965. I remember going to this building, and its creeky wooden steps, with my mother on a regular basis. The building, constructed in 1907 in the Beaux Arts style, has been carefully restored and today houses the Louisiana History Museum, and the Alexandria Historical & Genealogical Museum. Notice the historic old Alexandria water tower in the background.
