Working Women Early in World War II in Alexandria

The citizens of Alexandria, like all Americans, made many sacrifices during the war effort. They had to deal with shortages, and rationing. Many of their families joined the military and fought overseas. Many returned. Many did not. Everyone was working for the war effort, young and old, male and female.

Times were hard, but there was still optimism, and a time for fun, and fine women's fashion and women's clothing was still commonplace. Here are a series of photos taken around City Hall in Alexandria during World War II.
