Bogalusa, located in Washington Parish in East Louisiana close to Mississippi, was founded in 1906 by the Goodyear family from Buffalo, New York, who started the Great Southern Lumber Company. The sawmill was the largest in the world for many years.
Today, forestry and agriculture remain important elements in the economy of the Bogalusa area. The population is approximately 14,000.
It is near the widely known Bogue Chitto National Wildlife Management Area and Bogue Chitto State Park.
