LaPlace is located in the heart of Plantation Country, with historic structures such as San Francisco Plantation, Oak Alley Plantation, Ormand Plantation, Destrehan Plantation and others within easy driving distance.

A number of swamp tours are also available, as are a number of other area attractions.

It is known as the "Andouille Capital of the World," with the annual Andouille Festival held in LaPlace each October.

LaPlace is located in south Louisiana between Baton Rouge and New Orleans, on the East Bank of the Mississippi River in St. John the Baptist Parish. Located on U.S. Highway 61 and Interstate Highway I-10, its population is about 28,000.

Nearby towns include Norco, Reserve, Garyville, Lutcher, Taft and Luling.
