Journeys Back to the Simpler Times in Alexandria The Register of Retrospective Visitors The Alexandria Postcard Collection Features

Mandeville is located on Interstate Highway I-12 and U.S. Highway 190, on the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain in St. Tammany Parish. The population is about 13,000 residents.

It was originally laid out in 1934, and then incorported in 1840. It quickly became a popular summer and weekend destination for the wealthy of New Orleans. Growth of Mandeville accelerated with the opening of the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway in 1956; a second span was completed in 1969.

Nearby communities include Madisonville, Covington, Hammond, Lacombe, Ponchatoula, Slidell, Folsum, Abita Springs, and of course New Orleans.

Close by is historic, and popular, Fontainbleu State Park.

Mandeville has repeatedly been named one of the Relocate America "Top 100 Places to Live".

Shown below is a historic postcard from the Alexandria Postcard Collection.
