Minden is located on U.S. Highway 80 and I-20 between Shreveport and Ruston, Louisiana.
We've driven through Minden hundreds of times, including those many trips over the years to Louisiana Tech! And we still go through Minden to see the Bulldogs play in Ruston. GO DAWGS!
Situated in Webster Parish, the City of Minden is located near some of our favorite North Louisiana towns like Sibley, Arcadia, Cotton Valley, Ringgold, Haughton and Homer.
Settlement in the area of Minden dates back to the second decade of the 19th century, and the community traces its beginnings to 1835. In 1837, Charles Veeder laid out a town in the shape of a parallelogram and divided the area into lots. He named the settlement after the home of his ancestors in Germany: Minden.
In 1901, the Minden Lumber Mill, at the time one of the largest in the United States, opened in Minden. During the 1920s the discovery of the nearby Cotton Valley Oil Field occurred, and in 1923 the shops of the L&A Railroad moved to Minden. In 1941 a large shell-loading plant, the Louisiana Ordnance Plant, was constructed just west of Minden.
Today's economy is diverse and growing due to Minden's location on I-20 and its proximity to the Shreveport-Bossier metropolitan area.
