Rapides Avenue connects downtown with the outlying areas of Alexandria, following the now-contained bayou of the same name. Stores such as this one near the railroad tracks are decaying. But memories flash back, and my father is buying me tennis shoes near here at Antoon's Department Store. And my mother grew up not far off Rapides Avenue. And most remember the small fire station on that tiny parcel of land, and PaPa Sam Glorioso's store nearby and R.J. Jones Lumber towards the railroad tracks.
