Memories
of Alexandria Friends
Linda Morris
Gretchen Miller would often visit and stay with her GranGran and her aunt and uncle, Louise and Joe Mercer who lived at either 72 or 74 Chester Street. My house was at 68 Chester Street. Gretchen and I would dress up and play in Aunt Louise's and GranGran's old clothes for hours...see photo below - Gretchen Miller (left) and Linda Henry Morris (right)

Ruth
Beasley's last 6th grade class at Rosenthal. The photos shown below were taken
in the Rosenthal cafeteria close to the end of the school year,
in the spring of 1960. The boy chewing on the chicken leg is
forum member Roy Dunn.

The
photo below was taken at the Southern Bell Telephone Company in Alexandria
in the late 1940's or early 1950's. It was a group of men who
worked in the Central Office. My dad Aubrey Henry is the 3rd
man from the right. Note the "high-tech" equipment
in the picture. I know that Steve Nasello had connections with
the phone company. His father or grandfather worked with my dad.
Maybe others will recognize the men.

"Who
says it never snows down South?" The photo shown below was
taken in the early 1960's after a snow that we had. I had to
be at AJH at the time. The house was on the corner of Bertie
and Levin and belonged to DeWitt and Edna Benton. She taught
at the beauty school with my mother. DeWitt drove the bookmoblie
for the Rapides Parish Library. Edna is the woman on the right,
I'm in the middle. I must have been around 13. The other young
woman was just visiting, not from Alex.
I
remember that a couple of twins who went to Providence lived
next door to Edna. They were probably closer to my brother's
age. I can't remember their names. I think they worked side by
side at one of the banks for a time. One of the twins became
a nun for awhile. I guess that she decided it wasn't her calling.
I think both sisters got married and had children.
