Karen McKnight
Pineville, Louisiana

Special thanks to Karen McKnight of Pineville for providing the photo and article about everyone's favorite hangout, Castor Plunge, located about 8 miles out of Alexandria off Twin Bridges Road (LA 499).

The concrete pool, with its sandy bottom, was fed by the cold waters of Castor Creek. Also on the premises were a snack bar/tavern and screened-in dance floor providing food, dancing, a juke box, beer and pinball machines. It also included eight 16x16 buildings obtained from the old Camp Claiborne Army camp that were rented out during the summer. I

Karen's grandparents John and Valre Davies were the owners and operators of this popular cold water swimming pool, dance hall, and snack bar. The photograph was taken about 1950.
